Turin, Milan van Ewijk hypothesis goes away

Wolverhampton, Besiktas and even, albeit more timidly, Torino had been talked about him, but Milan van Ewijk is now one step away from a move to the Bundesliga: the 24-year-old right-back is about to become a new Wolfsburg player, barring any last-minute surprises.

The German club has reached an agreement with Coventry City to buy the player. There had already been talk in recent days of a possible reunion with Paul Simonis, the German club’s current coach, who had worked with Van Ewijk at Heerenveen as Kees van Wonderen’s deputy. Now Simonis wants to recreate that technical connection in Germany.

Coventry City is expected to collect about 10 million euros, a figure that can go up to 12 million with bonuses easily attainable. All that is missing is the finalization of some details and the passing of medical examinations.

Heerenveen, Van Ewijk’s former club, will also benefit from the deal. Having sold the player in 2023 for 4.5 million, he had retained a 10 percent clause on future capital gain: an attractive extra profit for the Dutch.
