Nect victory for Lorenzo Musetti in the second round of the US Open men’s singles. The 23-year-old from Carrara, number 10 in the world, overwhelmed Belgian David Goffin, number 80 but who was number 7 in 2017, with a score of 6-4 6-0 6-2.

The 23-year-old from Carrara, number 10 in the world, won the second set.

In the first set Lorenzo saves a break point in the first game, makes him the break in the next game, then in the third saves four more break points and eventually from 3-1 gets caught up at 3-3. However, on 5-4 comes the decisive stretch to win the first partial.

The second set was without history, with Musetti losing only three points in three turnovers. Completely different is the start of the third, in which he immediately suffers a break and Goffin then goes to 2-0.

But that’s the Belgian’s last gasp: the No. 10 ranking player no longer loses a point on his own serve and breaks Goffin three times, closing with a partial six consecutive games.

Two hours and 3 minutes the duration of the match, in the third round Musetti will face the winner of the challenge between Flavio Cobolli and the American Jenson Brooksby.

“I played an intense match because against David you never know how a match can develop and he was very solid. I played a’very good match especially in the third set when he started strong, and I am very happy” said Musetti at the end of the match.

“I was more aggressive today, that is something we are working a lot on especially on this surface, and so is the forehand, a’weapon I used very well today”.
