Here are statements to Supertennis microphones from Jannik Sinner after his four-set victory over Denis Shapovalov in the third round of the US Open men’s singles.

“Mentally I knew it was going to be a tough match, it was crucial to be there. I was able to respond better from the third set, there are areas where I am happy and things I can improve. However, I am overall satisfied. In difficult moments my box and the audience help me a lot. I’m happy with how I pulled through.”

“During matches, then, I always try to talk to myself in a positive way even if it doesn’t always maybe show. Trying to forget the negative things is important, and now I can do that much sooner than I used to in the past. The second week of a Slam is different from the first, getting there in the meantime is important. The next match will be difficult, no matter what. I will have to be ready physically”.

“This is a special place for me, here I played the first main draw in a Slam, last year I won the title: it is great to play here. The crowd is amazing, playing in the biggest stadium in the world for tennis is a privilege, even more so against an opponent like Shapovalov”.
