L'Italvolley goes wild, overwhelms Germany: Azzurre in quarters, Egonu and Nervini unstoppable

The Italian women’s national volleyball team’s run at the ongoing World Volleyball Championships in Thailand continues unimpeded. In Bangkok, Julio Velasco’s team, reigning Olympic champions, scored its 33rd consecutive victory by getting rid of Germany and qualifying for the quarterfinals of the rainbow competition.

Italy won 3 sets to 0 with scores of 25-22; 25-18; 25-11. The Germans, led by coach Giulio Bregoli, tried to oppose, especially in the first two partials, but the quality of the Italian team proved once again to be clearly superior.

The Italian team was able to win the final.

After winning the group, Velasco’s team bypassed Germany and made it to the top 8.

On Wednesday, they will return to the court to face the winner of the challenge between Poland and Belgium, already beaten in the groups.

Paola Egonu shined again with 21 total points, very well also Stella Nervini, scoring 11 points, and Myriam Sylla (8). To be applauded again Alessia Orro in direction and for the libero Monica De Gennaro. The Germans didn&#8217t get enough from the excellent Lina Alsmeier (10 points).
