John McEnroe in an interview with ESPN microphones spoke about Jannik Sinner and his incredible growth over the past two years. L’Azzurro has transformed from a young promise into a genuine ruler of the circuit, able to remain number one in the world for 65 weeks despite the Clostebol case, and to win four Grand Slam tournaments out of the last 7 played.

“It is incredible, Sinner is playing at a level that I did not expect could be so high at this point in his career. I am very amazed that he is this good. I have been following him for years, and he is a great guy, he has gone through a lot of problems with the well-known affair and the truth is that there was a lot of pressure here at the US Open when he played last year. And instead he handled it great, and so then in January at the’Australian Open: he was extraordinary”.

According to McEnroe, Darren Cahill played a key role in the breakthrough: “I knew his coach from when he was a child, Riccardo Piatti, who did a great job with him, but Jannik felt he needed something more, and Darren Cahill is one of the greatest coaches you will ever see in any sport”.

According to McEnroe Cahill is from the “Hall of Fame. He has coached Andre Agassi, Simona Halep, Lleyton Hewitt. He did a great job with Jannik Sinner, made him more convinced, changed his serve”.
