The first competitive engagement of the new Olimpia according to tradition will be tomorrow at 5 p.m. in the Unipol Forum gymnasium, an informal, closed-door scrimmage against a competitive team such as ratiopharm Ulm, which participates in the Eurocup and reached the German championship final last season.

Ulm will field a young team as always because the corporate mission is to build players to launch while still maintaining a high level of competitiveness: two former Ulm players have just landed in the NBA, Noa Essengue (Chicago) and Ben Saraf (Brooklyn), a Frenchman and an Israeli. This year “our” Diego Garavaglia is also part of this multinational project led by American coach Ty Harrelson. But overall the German team fields five players born between 2006 and 2007 who support the more experienced core that includes American outfielders Bryce Brown and Malik Osborne, forward Mark Smith, and forward Chris Ledlum. Ulm already played a scrimmage last week against Bamberg losing 96-82 with 15 points from Brown; nine points and eight rebounds from Mark Smith.

Olympia is on its very first outing after ten days of hard work. The outing with Ulm will be above all an opportunity to break the period of intense load and prepare for the first authentic commitment of the season at the weekend in Cagliari where awaiting the team will be one of the Eurocup “powerhouses,” Gran Canaria, and after that Bayern Munich – it would be the first time of the season against a EuroLeague team – or Massimo Bulleri’s Dinamo Sassari.
