Bitter birthday at Vingegaard house

Jonas Vingegaard, at the end of the 11th stage of the Vuelta neutralized with 3 km to go, expressed all his bitterness about what happened in Bilbao.
“It’s my son’s birthday, who turns one year old today, and I really wanted to raise my arms over the finish line for him – said the Dane. “We worked all day for this and not to have the chance to play for the win is pretty disappointing. I really had the ambition to win the stage and I was also in a good position to try. I still managed to cross the new finish line first, 3 kilometers from the real one. Too bad I don’t bring home a teddy bear for my son today, but I hope to get two tomorrow.”
“The team worked very well today – he added. Everyone was incredible, Victor Campenaerts was even in the breakaway at one point, we controlled the day perfectly. The first time we passed the finish line we saw that there were a lot of people and a lot of protesters, but the police tried to block them as much as possible. Even on the second climb some people got in the way, but I didn’t feel particularly in danger.”
“There was great disappointment when we heard the news. I wanted to follow Tom Pidcock who was going really strong uphill and I was able to get back on him on the downhill. I’m not sure if he knew there wasn’t going to be a stage winner today, because he seemed really intent on going on,” concluded the two-time Tour de France winner.
