Novak Djokovic ditched Chris Evert and won a crazy new record: he did so by beating Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open. The score, after three hours and 20 minutes of play, was 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 in favor of the Serb.

The Slav made it to the semifinals of a Slam for the 53rd time in his career-a record for both men and women as the former world No. 1 in world tennis now trails the former U.S. champion (52), Roger Federer (46) and Martina Navratilova (44).

Nole has reached the semifinals of all four Grand Slam tournaments this season. In 2025, only Jannik Sinner has done as well (or even better, with two titles and a final). Carlos Alcaraz, on the other hand, was beaten in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open by Djokovic himself.

The number of seasons in which the 1987 class has reached the semifinals in all four Grand Slam tournaments (2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2021, 2023, 2025) has risen to seven, more than Roger Federer (5) and far more than Rafael Nadal, who stopped at 2.
