Discordant views between Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur and Charles Leclerc on Lewis Hamilton’s wake from which the Monegasque was supposed to benefit in qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix in Monza.

Leclerc instead had to settle for fourth position behind Max Verstappen and the two McLarens, Hamilton on the other hand finished fifth but will be penalized five positions on the grid.

“The slipstream was an option, but the right decision was to focus on the preparation lap, on managing the tire temperatures better – said Vasseur at Sky Sports microphones -. The gap to the pole is decent, nothing would have changed. Did Leclerc ask for the slipstream? No, he understood why it was not possible”.

Here, however, is Leclerc’s response: “The first lap went a little bit’ under the radar, but I was happy. In the end, fourth place was the best. Taking Hamilton’s slipstream? It could have been handled differently, but that&#8217s how it went. You can fight for victory, but on paper the McLarens and Verstappen are very strong”.
