Stefan Nikolic and Chris Horton explain why they chose Reyer Venezia
Stefan Nikolic and Chris Horton, two new long players of Reyer Venezia, introduced themselves at the press room of Palasport Taliercio where they made their first statements as orogranata players.
“We started off strong right away, from day one – began Nikolic -For me it is an honor to be part of this group, this city and to play with guys of great depth that I had already met as an opponent last year. There was an immediate connection, the fact that many of them already knew each other helps so much to find the rhythm and the way to play beforehand. We are on our third friendly and we are really happy with how the work is going”.
“I feel really good here, we have a great working group– emphasized Horton -We have been working hard from day one and the coach asked us right away to make high-level steps. I have to say that all of us showed up with a’very good physical shape and that accelerated the process. There’s a great environment, I feel positive energy every day and I feel part of a family. There’s always a positive atmosphere and it’s rare to have bad days. Even though we have just started, the early feedback is extremely positive”.
Horton explained his decision to marry the orogranata as follows: “Certainly the history of the club in recent years. Reyer enjoys great respect and has always been a tough team to play against. I wanted to be part of something special and I had a positive idea about this destination from the very beginning. The people I asked for information gave me nothing but positive confirmations, and from these early days, I feel I made the right choice. I am really happy to be here”.
Nikolic echoed him: “It is a prestigious company, a history that I have always respected from the outside. When the call came, it gave me great satisfaction and I did not hesitate to accept. After talking with the coach, who explained what he expects from me, it was not difficult to choose. What I will bring is energy, physicality and grit. My instinct will always be to sweat the jersey on the court, playing where needed and also in other roles as required. I come from the A2 Series and this is a great challenge for me to prove that I belong at this level”.
Closing remarks on coach Neven Spahija: “He is a great communicator, able to convey confidence right from the start– said Nikolic -He is a basketball giant and I am happy because I will definitely have a lot to learn this year with him. I am happy with the way we are working on the court”.
“Off the court he is a lot of fun, a nice person who also likes to joke, so it is nice to spend time with him. At the same time, he is a great coach who knows the game and works hard. I think we started having a very good relationship right away; I ask him for a lot of advice and I think he appreciates this side of my character. I really enjoy working with him” Horton concluded.
