A radiant Paola Egonu was a guest on the La7 program ‘Otto e Mezzo’. The volleyball star, fresh from her World Cup success, one year after the Olympics, also addressed the very sensitive issue of racism.

“I believe that talking about it, and it is being done courageously, is serving and leading to an improvement of the situation in Italy. Steps are being taken. I have a lot of confidence in my country and I’m sure it will continue to improve,” he stressed.

“The latest victory is also from a fabulous group, which has been working together for years, and along the way has experienced highs and lows, which has grown, struggled and sacrificed. We also had the dream of winning the World Cup and we made it happen.

I am proud and happy about it, and I dedicate it to my family, my friends, and all the people who followed us, rejoiced with us, and welcomed us when we returned,” she added.

“Diversity is not a limitation but an added value, we are seeing that even now at the World Athletics Championships. And it can only lead to a better world. The difficult moments made me realize my weaknesses but also my strength and awareness. Difficult moments in life are normal but how you get back up is very important,” the champion later said.

“One thing that gives me so much is when, during the match, if I’m not having a good day, or I’m a bit down, I get the ball: for me it’s feeling that my teammates believe in me and give me confidence despite everything,” concluded Paola.
