Easy debut in Beijing for Jannik Sinner, swept away by Marin Čilić

World No. 2 Jannik Sinner easily passes the first round of the ATP 500 on Beijing’s concrete with a double 6-2 in one hour and 20 minutes over Croatian Marin Čilić, who will turn 37 on Sunday, currently No. 97 but was No. 3 in 2018.
Čilić saves a break point as early as in the first game of the match, but from 2-1 in his favor he suffers a run of five consecutive games by Jannik, who wins the partial at the second ball.
The Croatian veteran held serve in the first game of the second set without conceding break balls, but here Sinner strung together another five-game winning streak.
On 5-1 the 24-year-old South Tyrolean from Sesto Pusteria has two more break points that are also match points, misses them, then saves the only break point he concedes in the next game and closes the match on his third overall chance.
In the next round Jannik will meet 23-year-old Frenchman Terence Atmane, world number 68.
