Ryder Cup, Europe ahead after first day

In the presence of President Donald Trump, Team Europe finished ahead of Team USA (5.5-2.5) on the first day of the 45th Ryder Cup, underway at Bethpage State Park Golf Course in Farmingdale, New York.

In the morning foursomes the Europeans finished 3-1 ahead, in the afternoon fourballs, with the favorable 2.5-1.5 partial their lead increased further.

Confirmations and surprises in the field. Among the Europeans, Jon Rahm, Tommy Fleetwood and world number two Rory McIlroy lived up to expectations, and six others contributed to the score.

In the U.S. house disappointing Scottie Scheffler, the World Ranking leader, and Bryson DeChambeau, defeated in both matches played, while the best was Patrick Cantlay with 1.5 points. And altogether seven on the team remained at zero.
