Shanghai Masters 1000: Jannik Sinner in Novak Djokovic’s side.

While waiting for the two ongoing ATP 500s in Beijing and Tokyo to be completed, the draw for the Shanghai Masters 1000, the penultimate event in the ‘1000’ category, scheduled from Oct. 1 to 12, was made this morning.

Jannik Sinner, second seed, was drawn in the lower part of the draw: the Blue will make his debut directly in the second round with Daniel Altmaier or a qualifier. In the third round, possible cross with Tallon Griekspoor, while in the round of 16 the South Tyrolean could find Alexander Bublik again.

The path gets even more complicated starting in the quarterfinals where Jannik is expected to take on Taylor Fritz, the fifth seed. In the semifinals, he could face Novak Djokovic, the fourth seed, before a’possible final with Carlos Alcaraz, the seeded leader.

As for the other Azzurri, Lorenzo Musetti is in the top half of the main draw, manned by Alcaraz: the Carrara native will debut with Francisco Comesana or a qualifier and could cross paths with the Murcian only in the semifinals. Flavio Cobolli awaits the winner between Jaume Munar and Marton Fucsovics, Luciano Darderi one between Yunchaokete Bu and Juan Manuel Cerundolo.

Finally, Lorenzo Sonego will take on a qualifier, Matteo Berrettini will face Adrian Mannarino, Mattia Bellucci will face Adam Walton, Matteo Arnaldi will debut with a qualifier, and Luca Nardi is opposed to Sebastian Ofner.
