At the end of a disastrous weekend in Mandalika for Ducati, with the double fall of Marc Marquez, run over by Marco Bezzecchi at the start, and Pecco Bagnaia, Davide Tardozzi spoke to the microphones of Sky Sport. “As far as Marc is concerned I think it was just bad luck because the accident with Bezzecchi is something he could not avoid – he began – I think in this morning’s warm up he had found something good, so the interventions thought last night had worked for Marc. It is clear that the disappointment is enormous for Pecco: from a dominated weekend like the one 7 days ago to a disastrous one like this one in Mandalika. It is obvious that there will be a lot to think about this week. One thing is certain, and we have said it for 16 races before Japan: we believe in Pecco and we continue to believe in him. Then it is clear that the analysis that Gigi will have to do together with the engineers this week is very deep. At this moment we have not understood the reasons why Pecco has not thanked”.

“Right now he is devastated, first as a person and even more so as a driver– he added on the Turin driver -We want to protect Pecco and his emotions. If he came here with tears in his eyes, it could not be otherwise. He is a very sensitive guy, a fast rider, however, right now we think it is better to leave him quiet and try to us to work to put him in the condition to be able to perform at Phillip Island”.

“Does Pecco still have confidence in us? I absolutely think so. I think after 7 years he knows us very well on a technical and human level. I don&#8217t think there was a single time where Pecco doubted that we do 100% to help him”.

Finally, he shed light on the engine of the GP24 and GP25: “They have two different homologations. If we had raced with the GP24 engine we would have gone outside the regulations, which Ducati does not do. So the engine that was in Japan was from the GP25. Then there are the stewards of course, but we cannot afford to use the GP24 engine. I thank you for the question because it is good to clarify. The two engines have two different homologations. Then the difference is little, little, a lot, we know that. But they have two different homologations and we cannot run with the one from 2024”.
