Giacomo Nizzolo, applause and emotion for the'last race in his career

With the participation in the Coppa Bernocchi 2025, a race won by Frenchman Dorian Godon of the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team, Giacomo Nizzolo’s racing career has definitely ended: the sprinter born in 1989, professional since 2011, two-time Italian road champion and one-time European champion confirmed what had already been announced on social media: he will not compete in other pro races.
As per recent tradition, the peloton paid tribute to Nizzolo at the start, making him pass between two wings of cyclists with their bikes raised: applause and emotion for the now former 36-year-old rider, who in the last two seasons was part of the Swiss Q36.5 team with which he won a race, a stage of the Sibiu Cycling Tour in July 2024.
“It has been a journey made up of a lot of commitment, joys, beautiful victories but also difficult moments– Nizzolo had written a few weeks ago, foreshadowing the farewell that would become effective at the conclusion of the Bernocchi Cup -. I would like to thank all the people who have been close to me throughout my journey and who have supported me, in successes as well as in defeats”.
Nizzolo, according to his own statement, is still expected to remain in the cycling world, in another role that will be defined later. Among his successes as an athlete, in addition to two Italian titles (2016 and 2020) and a European title (2020), are two Giro d’Italia points classifications (2015 and 2016) and a stage success in the Corsa Rosa, in the stage starting in Ravenna and finishing in Verona on May 21, 2021.
