Lorenzo Musetti wins derby with Luciano Darderi and flies to the round of 16 in Shanghai

The derby with Luciano Darderi, valid for the round of 16 of the Shanghai Masters 1000, goes to Lorenzo Musetti. The Carrara native, number 8 in the seedings and 9 in the ATP rankings, overcame in two sets (7-5 7-6) the Italo-Argentine, number 26 in the seeding and 29 in the world, after two hours and twelve minutes of play.

Lorenzo started off strong, snatching the serve from Luciano in the fourth game and confirming the break lead (4-1). Immediate reaction, however, from Darderi who hooks his opponent at 4-4. On 5-5, however, Musetti placed a new and decisive stretch that earned him the first set (7-5).

In the second set it is the Italian-Argentinean who is the first to break the’balance (2-1) but the Carrarino places the immediate counter-break (2-2). It proceeded ‘on serve’ until the tie-break, dominated by Musetti who won it 7 points to 1.

Thanks to this victory, the Carrara native reaches the round of 16 of the ‘Rolex Shanghai Masters’ where he will face Felix Auger-Aliassime, number 12 in the seeding and 13 in the ATP ranking, in a challenge that will also say a lot in terms of ATP Finals. Musetti is eighth in the Race with 3535 points, while the Canadian is 10th at 2905 points.
