Craig Tiley, director of the Australian Open, also spoke about the rivalry between world number one – Carlos Alcaraz – and world number two – Jannik Sinner – during the presentation evening of the next edition of the Australian major.

“We are witnessing the birth of what could become the greatest rivalry tennis has ever known – he said. “Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are pushing each other to extraordinary levels. Every time they play each other, they force each other to push their limits; their very different playing styles make each match electrifying, and neither of them gives up until the last point. It is a rivalry that could define the future of the sport for many years”.

The South Tyrolean is the defending champion in Melbourne, while the Murcian is still chasing his first success in Australia: “Should Jannik win again, he would enter an exclusive club along with Novak. That is the level he is playing at. But Carlos (Alcaraz) is there, ready: he is world No. 1, seeking his first title at the Australian Open and, with it, the Career Grand Slam. Huge motivation”.

.

Finally, Tiley has not forgotten Novak Djokovic, who boasts a whopping 10 Australian Open titles: “Novak lives to exceed expectations and continue to build on his extraordinary legacy. Should he win here again, he would become the longest-serving Slam singles champion in the Open era, surpassing legend Ken Rosewall, and win his 25th major title, an all-time record. It would not just be a matter of adding another gem to an already legendary palmarès, but of writing history”.
