Germany and France make no mistake, Belgium flops. These were the main results on Friday night of European matches with qualification for the 2026 World Cup at stake. Sharp 4-0 German win over Luxembourg, also important 3-0 transalpine win over Azerbaijan. Sweden and Iceland fell at home against Switzerland and Ukraine, respectively.

For Germany, there is no problem getting the better of Luxembourg, already effectively ousted from the match at the end of the first half thanks to goals by Raum and Kimmich. Then, in the second half, Gnabry tripled and Kimmich sealed the 4-0 win and personal double after just 50 minutes. France also did well, unlocking the game against Azerbaijan only in the first half recovery thanks to Mbappé. In the second half it was Rabiot and Thauvin who closed the score.

Belgium at home, going no further than 0-0 with North Macedonia. Same result for Kosovo-Slovenia, while it’s spectacular Iceland-Ukraine: it ends 3-5, with decisive double by Genoa’s Malinovskyi cancelling out that of Fiorentina’s Gudmundsson for the hosts. Xhaka and Manzambi signed Switzerland’s 2-0 win in Sweden, Northern Ireland (2-0 against Slovakia) and Kazakhstan (round 4-0 over Liechtenstein) also won.
