A deluxe Jasmine Paolini beat Iga Swiatek, number 2 in the seeding and WTA ranking, for the first time in her career in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 in Wuhan. The Tuscan, seeded No. 7 and world No. 8, demolished the Polish player with a clean 6-1 6-2 after just one’hour and five minutes of play.

The first set was a monologue by the Azure, who took the serve away from Swiatek at zero in the opening game. Jasmine repeated the break lead in the third game before breaking the Polish player again in the seventh game that earned her the first partial (6-1).

Also in the second set the Tuscan immediately goes ahead by a break (2-0), Swiatek recovers it (1-2) but gives up the serve again in the fourth game (1-3). At that point Paolini concedes the crumbs on serve and with yet another break closes the score in response to the first match point (6-2).

Thanks to this crushing victory Paolini flies to the semifinals of the”Dongfeng-Voyah Wuhan Open’ where she will face Coco Gauff, number 3 in the seeding and ranking. In addition, with this success the Azzurra increases her lead over Elena Rybakina, now over 200 points, in the Race for a place at the WTA Finals.
