Lionel Messi: special permission to play (and score) with the'Inter Miami

Between friendly matches for Argentina, Lionel Messi found a way and time to play with Inter Miami. In the penultimate match of the MLS regular season, the Pulce was on the field wearing the Inter Miami jersey. Result? A 4-0 win over Atlanta United with the Argentine scoring a brace.

Javier Mascherano, coach of’Inter Miami, explained why Lionel Messi, although summoned by’Argentina, was able to play with his club: “I spoke with Scaloni (Argentina coach, ed.) and he told me that he would release him, considering that he was not going to play him. I talked to Leo about the possibility of having him play with us: there isn&#8217t much more to say. Leo was also clearly willing to play with us, despite training all week with the national team. Aeven though he didn’t train with us, well, we saw what he did on the field. Obviouslyhe helped us win”, his words reported by ESPN.

Thanks to this double (scored in front of many national teammates such as Leandro Paredes and Rodrigo De Paul), Lionel Messi has risen to 26 goals on the season, plus two over Denis Bouanga’striker Denis Bouanga (LAFC). With one match still to be played, the race for the top scorer title is not yet decided.

At this point, Pulce may decide to return to training with his national team, ahead of Tuesday night’s match against Puerto Rico at Chase Stadium.
