Torino market, Mauro Icardi wants to return to play in Serie A

From Turkey comes a market rumor that is bound to cause discussion: Torino have reportedly initiated contacts with Mauro Icardi for a possible return to Serie A for the Argentine striker. The former Inter captain is expiring his contract in June with Galatasaray, a club in which he has played since 2022/23 and with which he scored an impressive 66 goals in 96 games. This season, although he has collected only three appearances as a starter in the league, he has already netted five goals.
Making the possibility of a farewell plausible was Galatasaray’s president himself, Dursun Ozbek, who a few days ago admitted how a renewal “is currently not on the table.” On the other hand, Icardi – 32 years old – has never hidden his desire to return to Italy, both for family reasons and to relaunch his career in the league where he has made his mark with 219 total goals, including the 29 in the 2017/18 season that earned him the title of top scorer with the Nerazzurri jersey.
His agent, aware of the player’s will, has reportedly already proposed Icardi’s profile to several Italian clubs, including Torino itself. In the granata house, the idea would not displease: coach Marco Baroni would need a heavy finisher, as the attack has scored only six goals in the first five days. According to rumors, the Granata management has already scheduled a meeting with the striker’s entourage to sound out the feasibility of the operation in view of the January market.
The main obstacle remains the salary: Icardi currently earns 6 million net per season in Turkey, a figure out of reach for Torino’s coffers. However, the player might be willing to reduce his salary in order to return to Serie A and star in Italian soccer.
