Jon Dahl Tomasson is no longer Sweden’s coach

In the aftermath of the home defeat against Kosovo (0-1) in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the Swedish Football Federation announced that it had relieved Jon Dahl Tomasson, who had embarked on the ’adventure on the bench of “Tre Kronor” at the end of February 2024, from his post as technical commissioner. The federation explained that it had already begun the search for a name to replace the’former Danish Milan striker.
“The Federal Council–s choice –explained Simon Åström, president of the Swedish Federation –is based on the fact that the national team has not achieved the desired results. There is still a chance to enter the playoffs in March; our task is to ensure the most favorable conditions to reach the final stage of the World Cup. In this context, we believe new leadership is needed, with a new technical commissioner”.
“We have a group of players in whom we believe a lot and we want to create new opportunities so that they can express themselves to the fullest – added Kim Kallstrom, federal executive and former striker of the Swedish national team.”
We are convinced that this team can qualify for the World Cup, if there is a chance for the playoffs in March”.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jon for this period: he has been professional in dealing with the players, the technical staff and the Federation. It is always difficult to part ways but soccer is about results: we have reached a point where they are no longer enough” concluded Kallstrom, making the separation between Tomasson and the Sweden national team official for good.
