Lorenzo Sonego gets off to a smooth start in Stockholm

Convincing debut for Lorenzo Sonego at the BNP Paribas Nordic Open, an ATP 250 tournament in Stockholm. The Turin native, No. 47 in the world rankings, overcame British Arthur Fery (No. 221, coming from the qualifiers) without too much trouble with a score of 6-4 6-2, gaining access to the round of 16 in Sweden for the third year in a row. Next opponent: U.S. Aleksandar Kovacevic (No. 69).
For Sonego this is his 19th win of the season, coming against an opponent with his first experience in an ATP main draw. In fact, Fery, class of 2002, had won only two matches on the major circuit, one at Wimbledon and one in the Davis Cup.
“I had to fight on every point, but I’m happy,” the Italian told after the match. The atmosphere here is great, it gives me good feelings. I train every day to improve myself: I hope to give my best also in this tournament”.
