On the sidelines of the presentation of the opening ceremony of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan, Giovanni Malagò, president of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Foundation as well as former president of CONI, spoke on one of the issues concerning precisely the opening day of the Five Circles event, the question related to who will carry the Italian flag.

Among the most suggestive hypotheses is also that of entrusting the task to Federica Brignone, stopped by the serious injury suffered in the aftermath of the victorious season in the World Cup. An’option on which, however, Malagò has a definite idea: “If she does not recover for the races technically she could not” said the Roman executive clearly.

“If you are part of the Italian delegation, then… However, it is a matter for the’current president of Coni” specified the’former number one of Italian sports, who left the post after 12 years as president to Luciano Buonfiglio, former president of the Italian canoe/kayak federation and winner of the elections held at the end of June 2025.

The opening ceremony of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games will be held on Feb. 6: the centerpiece of the event, entitled “Harmony”, will be the San Siro stadium but the team working on its realization promises that all the athletes involved in the two cities will be protagonists of the ceremony itself, in a sort of widespread event that will reflect the very nature of this edition of the Games.

Giovanni Malagò, together with Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation CEO Andrea Varnier, Director of Ceremonies Maria Laura Iascone and Marco Balich, Creative Lead of the Opening Ceremony and Chairman of Balich Wonder Studio, also presented the first face of the opening ceremony, actress Matilda De Angelis, and announced a tribute to Giorgio Armani, a great fashion designer as well as a lifelong sports fan, who passed away last September 4.
