Italbasket, Luca Banchi takes stock after Azzurri’s first mini-meeting
The first mini-meeting of the men’s national basketball team under the orders of new technical commissioner Luca Banchi came to an end on Wednesday afternoon.
For this very first blue chapter, he chose to rely on many young basketball players, not engaged in European cups, to let them breathe the atmosphere of’Italbasket in view of the 2027 World Cup qualifiers.
For the Azzurri coach, the balance is positive: “I am very satisfied with the level of participation of each of the summoned – he said -, proving that wearing the national team jersey allows you to multiply your resources. These players are endowed with special talent, in technical, physical, and athletic aspects. These are qualities that allowed them to capture our attention, to make them deserve this convocation, and that in the short to medium term will allow them to become athletes capable of aspiring to the Senior jersey.”.
“These days – added Banchi – we wanted to work on simple and reproducible concepts that I hope each of them can absorb and transfer to their own sports realities. The intent is to be able to contaminate the clubs, coaches and teammates with their enthusiasm and desire to want to improve. A special thanks I want to address to the city of Rome, which has put us in ideal conditions and given us the opportunity to train in efficient facilities”.
“I thank the Federation for the enviable organization and I especially thank the clubs that put their athletes at our disposal. The hope is to have contributed to the enhancement of their commitment and sacrifice, testifying to the attention that there is towards the athletes” then concluded Banchi, at his second experience leading a Senior National Team after the one from 2021 to’summer 2025 with Latvia.
