Reinhold Messner lapidary on Jannik Sinner

Among those taking Jannik Sinner’s side in the controversy over the world number 2’s forfeit in the Davis Cup finals is Reinhold Messner.
The 81-year-old mountaineering legend spoke on “Un Giorno da Pecora”” on Rai Radio1 and, when pressed on the matter, gave his opinion on the choice of the Sest Pusteria outfielder.
“Sinner is a genius, he is as such, as a genius, he can do whatever he wants, he has skills more than most people,” he said lapidarily.
“Personally, I don’t know him but I feel close to him and I also follow him as a South Tyrolean” added Messner, who was the first to reach, in 1980, the summit of Everest solo and without oxygen.
