Torino wins in extremis: Maripan knocks out Genoa at 90'

Marco Baroni’s Torino won again, managing to get the better of a strong-willed and unlucky Genoa only in the final game. It ended 2-1 for the granata, with Maripan deciding the match in the 90′ after the Grifone had taken the lead through Thorsby and found with Sabelli an unfortunate own goal. Also crucial for the hosts, however, was goalkeeper Paleari.

Genoa’s afternoon could not start better, as, after an immediate Ekhator initiative on which the Granata defense got away with, the lead arrived. It is signed by Thorsby when just 7 minutes have elapsed on the clock: the action starts again from Ekhator, who goes to the cross from the right, Asllani fails to clear the area and the Norwegian dumps the ball into the net. And the red and blue continue to make themselves preferable to a stunned Torino, with Malinovskyi, Thorsby himself and the usual Ekhator coming close to doubling the score.

The first real Granata chance came just minutes before halftime, when Leali barred Maripan’s goal on the development of an Asllani free kick. Everything changed in the second half, however, with Genoa closed in its half and Torino looking for at least an equalizer. The guests, however, remained dangerous on the counterattack, with Ekhator closed down at the best by Coco. On the other side Leali is prodigious on Maripan, but nothing can at 67′ when Pedersen goes to the cross for Adams. The first to get to the ball is Sabelli, whose deflection, however, ends up behind the Rossoblù goalkeeper.

Genoa didn&#8217t seem to want to give up, so much so that they created the chance for the new lead with the inspired Thorsby and Malinovskyi, but Leali was also crucial on Ngonge’s diving shot. The guest goalkeeper wins again the challenge with the Belgian a few minutes later, in the final comes one chance per side with Casadei and Colombo. Then on 90′ Torino won it with a splendid volley by Maripan off a corner by Lazaro. Then as time expired, a phenomenal Paleari denied Cornet the equalizer. Second consecutive victory for the granata, after the one against Napoli. Grifone still last in the Serie A standings, where they have yet to win this year.
