Alcaraz or Alvarez? The curse of Bruno Vespa strikes Carlos. And Jannik Sinner laughs it off

Carlos Alcaraz or Carlos Alvarez? The world number one’s performance in his Paris Masters 1000 debut surprised everyone in the negative. The Spanish star, who was immediately eliminated by Cameron Norrie, looked like a different tennis player than in recent outings, totally unrecognizable, and many on social media made irony by referring to Bruno Vespa’s famous anti-Sinner post.
“Why should an Italian root for Sinner? He speaks German (right, it’s his native language), he resides in Monte Carlo, he refuses to play for the national team. Honor to Alvarez who is playing the Davis Cup with his Spain”, the RAI journalist had written on X.
“Vespa had seen very well in calling him #Alvarez , other than #Alcaraz”, “Today Alcaraz played on the level of Alvarez”, “I am astonished by the match of #Alcaraz today in the version of Alvarez”, there are hundreds of ironic comments and mockery towards Vespa and towards the champion from Murcia.
Alcaraz, who complained at the end of the match about the slowness of the surface, is now in danger of losing his supremacy: if Jannik Sinner wins the Paris Masters 1000 he will return to number one in the world.
