ATP Finals, Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori win with No. 1s

Winning debut – and surprisingly – for the Italian pair formed by Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori at the Atp Finals in Turin. Buoyed by the home crowd, at the Inalpi arena they defeated Britain’s Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool, the No. 1 ranked players in the world. The final score was 7-5 6-3 after an hour and 21 minutes of play.
“A match that is in the top 5 of our pair and that gives us a lot of charge – says Bolelli -. We knew that we could bother them, that the match could be won, even if they are the number one seed. Beyond the technical fact, the key today was definitely the energy, we played every point with crazy intensity, we wanted to do well.
“Clearly the’goal is to win – he adds -, but in my opinion the main goal is to get on the court, give everything, do everything to bring the game home”. Vavassori also says he“s very happy with how we played. We talked to each other before we went on the court and the’main goal was to put a lot of energy into it. I’m very proud of Simo and very proud of what we’ve done in these two years together and how we’re dealing with difficulties as well. So it was a premiere that we really cared about”.
Then a thought to the other two Azzurri at the tournament, Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti. “Jannik – says Bolelli – he’s a supersonic train, we wish him good luck. And then we are very happy for Muso because he deserved it, he had a crazy season until the last one, he had to fight to get here and he deserved it. So we hope they do well for both of them”.
