Inter market, a big man at the crossroads: January farewell becomes a'hypothesis

Inter Milan soccer market: Cristian Chivu is trying to give continuity to the Nerazzurri team, whose path in Serie A has so far lived of ups and downs. Precisely for this reason, the position of a player who also had become a symbol of the team in recent seasons seems to become more delicate: Francesco Acerbi. Whose future now suddenly seems to have become hazy.
A man of providence on the way to last year’s Champions League final, having signed the goal that allowed the semifinal with Barcelona to go into extra time, Acerbi seems to have slipped away from Chivu’s hierarchy in recent weeks. This is certified by the fact that he has not played as a starter since Oct. 25, when Inter lost decisively in Naples. Since then he has missed three games: in the league with Fiorentina and Verona, in Europe with Kairat.
Sunday’s big ex match against Lazio could therefore prove to be very important. Should Chivu decide to leave him on the sidelines again, the’indication would be even clearer. Especially since, in recent weeks, the tactical alternatives to the experienced Acerbi have been more than one. Not only Stefan De Vrij, his natural alternative, but also the shift of Yann Bisseck to the center of Inter’s defense has been seen. As if to say: let’s start thinking about the future of the team’s rearguard.
After all, Acerbi will turn 38 in February: clearly his career is not endless. At the same time, however, the Lombard defender is still physically intact, and this very aspect could be a game-changer as early as January. In case Chivu decides to do without him more systematically, a mid-season farewell could be the ideal solution for all parties involved.
