Lorenzo Musetti in semifinals at ATP Finals if: combinations after Fritz elimination

Alex De Minaur’s victory over Taylor Fritz turned everything upside down in the ‘Jimmy Connors‘ Group of the ATP Finals. The Australian, who occupied the last place in the rankings, overcame the American in two sets (7-6 6-3) eliminating him and can now hope for qualification to the semifinals.
Everything will depend on Thursday night’s match between Carlos Alcaraz and Lorenzo Musetti. De Minaur must root for the Spaniard to reach the penultimate act in Turin, while the Azure will qualify if:
– beats Alcaraz in two sets
– beats Alcaraz in three sets
.
Furthermore, in case of success against the world number one, the Carrarino would end the round in first place. Musetti, in fact, would have the same number of victories as Alcaraz (2) and, with the same number of victories, the direct clash would make the difference.
The precedents between Musetti and Alcaraz are not too encouraging for the Blue: the Murcian has won seven out of eight matches between ATP, Challengers, and Futures, and Musetti’s only win dates back to 2022, when he beat the Spaniard by a score of 6-4 6-7 6-4 in a memorable final on clay in Hamburg. On an indoor court, however, it will be their first match.
