FITP President Angelo Binaghi commented on Jannik Sinner’s triumph at the ATP Finals at the microphones of RTL 102.5: “Sinner is a great guy and it was an incredible match, above all it was a great satisfaction that Turin, Piedmont and all of our country deserves, especially all the people who watched this match live and therefore the millions and millions of Italians who suffered with us and then finally rejoiced. It is a great national popular celebration”.

“Sinner said there was a soccer stadium cheer, maybe now it will be soccer that, in some ways, will try to approach tennis– added the Federtennis number one. We have great respect for those who are ahead of us and we try to copy the good things they do, maybe leave others aside, but still we run our race, knowing that we can stimulate others as well, so that overall the sport in Italy becomes more and more popular and we can also win more, as Sinner did and as our boys are doing”.

“From this week Davis Cup in Bologna, on the wings of this exciting success, I think the boys will try hard to keep the Davis Cup in Italy for the third consecutive year. There are many extraordinary Italian tennis players, even in the women’s. Do we want to talk about Paolini, Errani or Cocciaretto, who have worked miracles and are world champions”.

He concludes on the numbers of the Turin tournament: “230,000 spectators, an economic impact on the territory that is close to 600 million euros, but above all, the Italy of tennis that grows. The passion of Italians toward tennis is growing, it is a fantastic moment and I hope it never ends. The credit goes, first and foremost, to the kids. We are happy to have given this opportunity to Jannik and now to Lorenzo Musetti, as well as Bolelli and Vavassori. They will play one of the most important tournaments of the year in Italy, with cheers and their spectators for the next five years”.
