Gianluigi Buffon, Azzurri head coach and sporting director, looking forward to the playoffs in March and after the loss to Norway returned to talk about Italian soccer today. “We are going through a period of transition and we have not figured out which way to go”.

The former national team goalkeeper in his analysis in Gazzetta dello Sport started precisely from the 2006 World Cup triumph: “We also pay for the mistakes of the past. Today&#8217s results date back to 20 years ago, to when we rested on our strength thinking it would be eternal by grace received. Even then you had to rethink technical and tactical models, but we were cicadas”.

On the bench today there&#8217s a protagonist of the Berlin triumph, his former teammate Gennaro Gattuso: “Rino is the right ct, he is the best figure you could have chosen. I don’t like him and I don’t understand this prevention against him. He decides everything, like the double 9 which is a brilliant intuition… Italy wins only if you make a group. Just what Rino is creating”.

“Fear grips, it doesn&#8220t make you play: instead, we need the right respect… The World Cup is a magic for the country to experience, we can”t not go,&#8221 he concluded ahead of the playoffs in March, against Northern Ireland and possibly the winner of Wales-Bosnia.
