Ornella Vanoni is dead, ailing in the night in Milan at age 91

The illness came suddenly, shortly after ten o’clock in the evening. Immediately, the call to the personal physician and, at the same time, the call for help to 118 was initiated. Rescuers arrived quickly, but all attempts proved futile.
Ornella Vanoni disappeared in her home in largo Treves, in the heart of Milan between Brera and Moscova, on the evening of Friday, Nov. 21, crushed by a cardiac arrest. With her goes one of the most recognizable and beloved voices of Italian music.
Born in Milan on September 22, 1934, Ornella Vanoni was one of the most enduring and representative singers of Italian music. Trained at the school of the Piccolo Teatro with Giorgio Strehler, she made her debut in the 1950s interpreting traditional folk songs and songs of the mala, and then over the years built a very rich and multifaceted career.
Unmistakable voice, elegant and sensual, has spanned more than six decades of music with hits such as “Senza fine, Domani รจ un altro giorno, La voglia, la pazzia, L’appuntamento” and many collaborations with artists of different generations. He has participated several times in the Sanremo Festival and has also worked in theater and cinema.
