Spike Lee, guest of honor at the Torino Film Festival 2025, during the press conference for the presentation of his film ‘Highest to Lowest’ wanted to clarify his position on Jannik Sinner after what happened during the Roland Garros final, when the U.S. director was caught on camera cheering wildly for Carlos Alcaraz.

“I just want to make one thing clear. I have nothing against Sinner. He is a great, great tennis player. And because some people saw my enthusiasm for Carlos, they thought I was being disrespectful. So, no, that’s not the case at all. I love sports. Especially basketball, the New York Knicks”.

.

“So when I heard I was coming here… because I was getting text messages, all kinds of text messages in Italy. Like, I won&#8220t use that word. But that is not true at all. And I hope to meet Sinner in person someday, shake his hand and let him know that I have nothing but love for him. You know?”” continued Spike Lee.

“They are the two best tennis players in the world. So, it is all love. I have nothing against him. So write it down! And then, if I see him at Wimbledon or Roland Garros or the U.S. Open — I am a big collector. So I would really like him to autograph a match-used tennis racket for me. I have a match used racquet from Arthur Ashe, from Serena Williams, from Coco Gauff. So, I would like to add Sinner to my collection…”.
