Legends Tour, third place worth for Emanuele Canonica

Emanuele Canonica finished third with 201 (67 69 65, -15) strokes in The Vattanac Legends Championship Legacy Edition played at the Vattanac Golf Resort (par 72) in Khan Chbar Ampov, near Phnom Penh in Cambodia, where South African Darren Fichardt won with 197 (67 64 66, -19). The Italian, 54, from Moncalieri (TO), with a long career and one success on the DP World Tour (Johnnie Walker Championship, 2005), achieved his second best result of the season by finishing in the top ten for the fourth time after finishing second in the Reignwood Legends Championship, fifth in the OFX Irish Legends and seventh in the European Legends Cup.
Darren Fichardt, 50, of Pretoria, signed his first Legends Tour title after five wins on the DP World Tour, sixteen on the Sunshine Tour net of two combined with the European circuit, and two on the Challenge Tour, now the HotelPlanner Tour. He led the final round with 66 (-6) strokes, making six birdies including three decisive ones in the last four holes. Contributing to his success, however, was Australia’s Hend, number one in the order of merit, who was second with 198 (-18), giving him the green light with a bogey on the final green (65, -7, two eagles, five birdies, two bogeys).
In third with Canonica as well are Sweden’s Jarmo Sandelin and Wales’ Jamie Donaldson, in sixth with 202 (-14) England’s Matthew Cort and New Zealand’s Mark Brown, and in eighth with 203 (-13) England’s Anthony Wall and India’s Jeev Milkha Singh. The “over 50” tour will conclude with the MCB Mauritius Legends, which will take place Dec. 5-7 at the Constance Belle Mare Plage, Mauritius, where Canonica will again be in the field.
