The women’s World Cup circuit returns to the Copper slope, for a giant slalom (first run at 6 p.m., second at 9 p.m. with live TV coverage on Raisport and Eurosport) that returns to Colorado 24 years after the last time when, in 2001, it was Norway’s Andrine Flemmen who dominated.

Leading the pink patrol will be Sofia Goggia, accompanied by Asja Zenere (best Italian in the Soelden overture with 17th place), Ilaria Ghisalberti, Lara Della Mea, and Giorgia Collomb. Overall this will be the fourth time women will compete at Copper, in 1999 Karen Putzer was second behind the late Regine Cavagnoud.

Sofia Goggia spoke on the eve of the race: “I have been here almost two weeks but I found a different environment from previous years when it was always very cold. This year there were high temperatures, for the first few days we were even running in short sleeves, so the training runs were short, by about 20 seconds in both downhill and supergiant, with different conditions than the last two days as the temperatures have dropped. In the last few days we have been practicing the giant slope on a different slope from the race slope, so we don’t know the bottom well, although the slope has been injected with water and will be aggressive in terms of grip. The feelings are good, I feel good in this discipline, the goal is to ski as I am capable, without overdoing it, staying focused from the gate to the finish line”.

On Sunday, Nov. 30, a slalom will be held instead (first run at 6 p.m., second at 9 p.m.) with Lara Della Mea, Giorgia Collomb, Emilia Mondinelli, Beatrice Sola and the returning Martina Peterlini.
