A real plunge into the past has everything to do to act as an appetizer to the challenge that at 3 p.m. on Sunday, for the thirteenth day of the first leg of the top series, will pit Pisa against Inter at the home of the Tuscans: the two Nerazzurri teams will return to cross paths in A more than 30 years after the last time. The last previous league fixture was played at the Arena Garibaldi and is dated March 3, 1991. Among the meneghini, Matthaeus, who had a knee problem, did not take the field, but the 2 points for Giovanni Trapattoni’s team came anyway thanks to a header by another midfielder, Nicola Berti.

In Tuscany on Sunday, Cristian Chivu expects a reaction from a group fresh off two painful defeats: first in the derby with AC Milan and then in Madrid against former Nerazzurri Diego Simeone’s Atletico they left the entire stake to their opponents. Denzel Dumfries will not be in the match, and his absence could turn into a new chance for Luis Henrique, with the former Olympique Marseille man having to date rendered less than expected of him. Up front there will be room for the pair formed by Thuram and a Lautaro Martinez who has appeared rather nervous of late and needs to return to goal, the best medicine for a bomber.

At home, Inter is also looking at the market, with the possible exit of Davide Frattesi, who is failing to impose himself in Cristian Chivu’s lineup. The former Sassuolo man has so far totaled 390 minutes between Serie A and the Champions League, a haul that cannot make him happy and could even convince him to make a change of scenery in January. Several clubs are on his trail and the hypothesis of an exchange with Lazio&#8217s Nicolò Rovella has also resurfaced: the negotiation had faded in the summer but could soon be back in vogue given also Maurizio Sarri&#8217s enormous esteem for Frattesi. Watch out also for Roma, which had already made a survey in the summer to bring the Nerazzurri midfielder to the capital.

Probable lineups

Pisa (3-4-2-1): Semper; Calabresi, Caracciolo, Canestrelli; Angori, Piccinini, Aebischer, Touré; Leris, Tramoni; Nzola. Coach: Gilardino.

Inter (3-5-2): Sommer; Akanji, Acerbi, Bastoni; Luis Henrique, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Lautaro. Coach: Chivu.
