Two years ago Franco Zuccalà, master of journalism, left us.

Franco Zuccalà passed away two years ago, on Nov. 30, 2023, at the age of 83. Born in Catania on Sept. 22, 1940, he was for decades one of Rai’s best-known correspondents in football, but he also worked with newspapers such as “La Sicilia,” “La Gazzetta dello Sport,” “Il Giornale” and “Tuttosport.” Since 2000 he has worked as a columnist for the Italpress agency, also editing reports and documentaries on soccer.
Since 1966 he has covered as a journalist four editions of the Olympic Games, ten World Championships, eight European Championships and two African Cups of Nations. He has made some sixty lifestyle documentaries shot in Australia, South Africa, the United States, Latin America, and Asia, touching on more than one hundred and fifty countries in total.
He has also made some sixty costume documentaries filmed in Australia, South Africa, the United States, Latin America, and Asia.
His reportages broadcast in Rai’s Sunday sports programs told the story of Italian soccer in the 1980s and 1990s with a sober, ironic and often disenchanted style, helping to make even more enjoyable a sport that precisely in that era lived in Italy its richest and most spectacular season. Those reports were watched and appreciated across the board by all kinds of audiences.
