Luis Muriel was the big guest of Sunday night’s match at the New Balance Arena between Atalanta and Fiorentina, which was later won 2-0 by coach Raffaele Palladino’s lineup. Having finished his season with Orlando City in MLS, the Colombian striker, who played for both the Nerazzurri and the purple club, returned to Bergamo as a spectator. “I feel great emotion and I can not stop smiling, it is the best thing that has happened to me since the birth of my daughters – he admitted before the match to the microphones of Sky Sport -. It is the best moment of my life, I hope to remember it forever”.

So, the U.S. club’s center forward opened to a possible return to Italy: “It would please me so much, really. As soon as I set foot here again, I felt something different inside that brought me back to the good times I experienced in Italy. I felt so much desire to come back and play in Serie A”. Muriel also revealed a little joke with Antonio Percassi, the president of Atalanta’Atalanta: “I saw the president first who said to me, ‘What are you doing here? Come back!’ (laughs, ed.). I would love to come back, it will not be easy, but let&#8217s see what my future will be. I really want to come back”.

During his six years with the Dea shirt, seasoned with 68 goals in 184 appearances and the historic Europa League triumph in 2024, Muriel was coached by Gian Piero Gasperini. The South American striker had this to say about his former coach, who started his adventure with Roma with a bang, only one point away from the top after 13 days of Serie A. “It is strange to see him in Rome after so many years in Bergamo, but I am so pleased with his position in the standings – confessed the’former striker of Sampdoria and Udinese among others -. I hope he stays up there for a long time yet”.
