Nicola Pietrangeli, Bertolucci’s condolences: "A very bad Monday"

Paolo Bertolucci spoke about his former captain Nicola Pietrangeli, who died at 92: “It’s a big bad Monday. He’was our captain in the first Davis Cup victory, in Chile in 1976, but above all he was the first great Italian player, the absolute recordman in terms of matches played in the Davis Cup, a record that no one can ever take away from him”.
“He’was our first tennis hero – continued Bertolucci -, as kids we used to watch him play with our mouths open, in the black and white of the first Davis matches”.
“Nicola also had a great personality, he was a great character, who wrote indelible pages. He’s Italian tennis. Unfortunately, after Lea Pericoli we also lost him”, concluded Bertolucci.
Paolo Bertolucci was part of the historic Italian team that won the Davis Cup in 1976, led by Nicola Pietrangeli.
