Double defeat for women'Italy women’s team in friendly match against U.S.

The women’s Italy women’s friendly tour of the United States ended with a second defeat. After the 3-0 loss suffered Saturday in Orlando (goal by Moultrie in the 2nd minute and Macario’s double in the 64th and 76th minutes), tonight the Azzurri lost 2-0 in the rematch against the Stars and Stripes national team in Fort Lauderdale.
Commissioner Andrea Soncin revolutionized the lineup to test all the players, and in the first minutes Italy responded by coming close to taking the lead with Piemonte. On 20′ however, the opposing star Macario sprints on the offside line and passes Durante with a lob.
The hosts’ battleship rose to the top and at 41′ doubled with a right-footed drive by Shaw from the edge of the’box. In the second half, the Azzurri resisted U.S. pressure and came close to scoring with Dragoni, but the second half ended goalless.
“I saw again that desire and determination that we are used to put on the field – commented Soncin, looking at the glass half full – we took a step forward compared to three days ago and I am sure that this experience will teach us a lot. We would have liked a different ending, but we will restart from the fire shown today, which will serve us to make great performances and get to the World Cup in Brazil in two years”.
