Pitch black at Ferrari: Frederic Vasseur’s apology no longer convincing

At Abu Dhabi, the last round of the World Championship, Ferrari will be mere spectators of the duel for the Drivers’ World Championship. Last year, the Redhead was playing for the constructors’ title with McLaren, now it is counting the days until the end of a horror movie season. Barring miracles in the’last GP of the year, the Maranello stable will close without a single victory and, more worryingly, with a drop in performance that is of great concern ahead of next season.
Under the magnifying glass is Vasseur, guilty, according to many fans, of failing to make sense of the Cavallino’s season. After the good intentions of the start of the World Championship (“We will fight for victory”), Ferrari has begun to show huge limitations. The SF-25 did not prove to be up to the task. Vasseur was certain that, with the’arrival of upgrades, the situation would improve, but it hasn’t. Beyond a few flashes of Leclerc, the season finale is one of the bitterest in the Cavallino’s history. In Qatar it reached its lowest point with Hamilton eliminated twice in Q1 (qualifying for the Sprint and for the race) and Leclerc now resigned to ending another World Championship by watching others celebrate.
Vasseur, throughout the season, has always found reasons for each defeat. For many fans, the “excuses” of the Rossa team principal are no longer convincing and there are those who hope for a change at the helm of Ferrari (the most talked about name remains Horner). On the strength of a contract renewal in August, it seems unlikely that Vasseur will risk his job, even though, in 2026, he will have, literally, no more excuses. Ferrari fans are looking forward to the end of one of the most disappointing seasons ever. From the promise of fighting for the World Championship to finishing fourth in the Constructors’ Championship, without a single GP won and with the two drivers completely challenged.
