The Olympic Flame has officially arrived in Italy: two months before Milan-Cortina 2026, one of the most significant symbols of the Olympic Games has arrived on Italian soil, brought to the ground, from the plane that arrived in Fiumicino from Athens around 5:30 p.m., by one of the Olympic champions of the last summer edition, tennis player Jasmine Paolini.

Visibly emotional, the Italian tennis player carried the Olympic flame along with Giovanni Malagò, president of the Milan-Cortina Foundation as well as former president of CONI. Also present were Coni’s current number one, Luciano Buonfiglio, the secretary general and deputy vice president of the National Olympic Committee, Carlo Mornati and Diana Bianchedi, along with the mayors of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Beppe Sala and Gianluca Lorenzi.

Paolini participated, in Athens, in the ceremony of handing over the Olympic flame together with another medalist at the Games, cyclist Filippo Ganna: “It was a great emotion, especially when I realized the significance of all this: it is the dream of every athlete, I would never have imagined to take part in this moment”.

Jasmine Paolini, at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, won the gold medal in the women&#8217s doubles tournament together with Sara Errani: the Bagni di Lucca athlete and the veteran Bolognese had defeated, in the very final, the Neutral Delegation pair composed of Mirra Andreeva by Diana Shnaider. 2-6, 6-1, 10-7 the score of a match that made the history of Italian sports and tennis in particular.
