Sandro Giacobbe has died at 75, he was also a player and coach of the National Singing Team

Singer-songwriter Sandro Giacobbe, an esteemed voice of Italian pop music from the 1970s onward and a great soccer fan, remembered also for his involvement in the National Singers National Team, of which he was a player and coach, has died at the age of 75 at his home in Cogorno (in the province of Genoa).
Sources close to the artist’s family, who had been battling cancer for some time, confirmed the news. His long career as a singer-songwriter saw him compose and perform such hit songs as “Signora Mia” from 1974 (also included in the soundtrack of the film “Travolti da un insolito destino nell’azzurro mare di agosto” by Lina Wertmüller), “Gli occhi di tua madre” from 1976 (third runner-up at the Sanremo Festival) and “Portami a ballare” from 1984, presented at “Un disco per l’estate” just to name a few songs.
Great Genoa supporter, Sandro Giacobbe has been involved in the world of soccer not only in the National Singing Team (with which he played no less than 375 games with 4 goals to his credit) but also in the minor leagues. After his experience at Monilia in the Third Category in the late 1990s, from 2014 to 2016 he had taken over the technical leadership of Rupinaro Sport, a Chiavari formation playing in the First Category and chaired by Don Fausto Brioni. His son Andrea also played on that team. His other son, Alessandro, is also involved in the world of soccer: just a few days ago he celebrated bench number 150 with Sammargheritese, a formation that plays in Ligurian Promozione.
