With her third place in the second downhill of the season, Sofia Goggia returned to the podium in St. Moritz for the eighth time: a result that allowed her to touch 63 appearances among the top3 in the top circuit, and twenty-four hours after her fourth place on Friday, the feelings are different. “I am happy with the way I skied and the attitude – admitted the Bergamasque -, I had more confidence in my legs. Too bad for the long turn to the right in the final, I entered fast but I could not reverse well. I found myself very low: however, I am satisfied with the performance and the podium. I am glad to be so improved: it was a solid run”.

The all-time queen in speed has sent a clear message ahead of the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics

“Yesterday’s race also served me to regain confidence after several weeks in which I was not training downhill – added Goggia -. In the last two months I could practically only do giant slalom, given that the conditions in North America did not allow for downhill training. It’s a specialty that requires a lot and today lap that I did here and will do in the coming days will allow me to build my top skiing in this discipline as well Here in St. Moritz I had a chance to have a good run on Wednesday, on Thursday I preferred not to push given the conditions. Between yesterday and today we have already seen improvements: it needed breaking in.”

Also in the second downhill in St. Moritz, the Bergamasque had to surrender to U.S. legend Lindsey Vonn, who preceded her in the standings by only five hundredths: “It is always nice to see Lindsey Vonn in the race: a champion like that helps all of us to raise the bar, it is an extra stimulus. Last year in October there were rumors of Lindsey’s comeback, I called her and told her it would be a dream to get back on the podium together. She told me to keep it as a goal and today we got there. It’s nice to be on the podium together, but we both want to win.”

Laura Pirovano also grew, sixth in the second downhill after finishing eighth on Friday: “A little better than yesterday, I was able to attack more. Too bad for a mistake in the lower part that cost me a bit; now we are waiting for this first SuperG: the goal is to interpret the course”.

Placements in the points zone are also taken by Roberta Melesi (+1″73) and Elena Curtoni (+2″00) who are 24th and 28th respectively, further behind are Nicol Delago (+2″19), Nadia Delago (+2″28), Sara Thaler (+2″85) and Vicky Bernardi (+3″32); exit for Asja Zenere.
