John Cena has officially retired. After fighting (and losing) the match with Gunther, at the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC, the WWE Superstar has said enough after a full 24 years in the ring.
His entry into WWE dates back to 2001, when he went by the name Prototype. Over the years, he has earned the respect and love of the public, even going as far as winning 17 World Champion titles and, most importantly, becoming one of the most acclaimed Superstars in the WWE.
After announcing, in the summer of 2024, that he would retire at the end of 2025, came the’last match, the one, played Saturday night, with Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event. John Cena lost (decisive a sleeper hold) and said goodbye to his audience (copious tears among the fans present at the event). No farewell speech. John Cena hleft his iconic wristbands and shoes in the ring, walked up the entrance ramp, turned around and gave a final salute to the camera and fans.
