Inter market, a veteran may leave as early as January

Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio have been working for some time to redesign the defense at Cristian Chivu’s disposal: there could be several entries and exits in the coming soccer market sessions and the club’s goal is to rejuvenate the department. For months there has been talk of Francesco Acerbi’s probable farewell: the seasoned center back is expiring his contract and in recent times has had numerous physical problems that have convinced the Biscione management to divorce the former Sassuolo man at the end of the season. Another experienced defender, however, could say goodbye as early as January.
We are talking about Stefan de Vrij, also at the end of his Nerazzurri experience. Despite starting in the Italian Super Cup semifinal against Bologna, the Dutchman is set to say goodbye to Inter and speculation is growing about an early divorce. The former Lazio center back, who has been at Milan since 2018, does not want to miss the opportunity to play in the upcoming World Cup but, in order to convince Ronald Koeman to bet on him, there’s a need for him to play with continuity and Cristian Chivu cannot guarantee it.
In Inter’s sights is young Tarik Muharemovic, class of 2003 from Sassuolo, who is doing very well with the neroverde formation. The Bosnian is the No. 1 candidate in Inter’s market plans but there is the Juventus obstacle: the Bianconeri are monitoring him very closely and when they sold him to Sassuolo they inserted a clause according to which they will collect 50 percent of his sale. This would allow the Old Lady to pay Muharemovic half the price.
If Stefan de Vrij leaves in January, Inter will look for a replacement in the winter soccer market window but in the summer the club will still have to step in to replace Francesco Acerbi. For June, the hot name is Lazio’s Mario Gila, who has a contract with the biancocelesti until 2027 and is wavering on renewal.
Eyes also on Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi, among the top players expiring in June 2026. The Argentine defender is very skilled in the aerial game and has an’important physical structure, a profile reminiscent of Francesco Acerbi. Bournemouth is trying to convince him to renew but Senesi is not convinced.
