Flavio Cobolli, one of the heroes of the last Davis Cup won by Italy, gave an interview to Tg1 in which he talked about many things, first of all about training with Carlos Alcaraz and the advice the world number 1 gave him. “When you do two hours of training with a tennis player you play for two hours, but when you do it with Alcaraz it seems like only 20 minutes. He’s giving me a lot of advice and even if he doesn’t say some of it openly, I still learn.”

After the match Cobolli told Sky Sports about his feelings
"Taking the field with Jannik was a privilege"

"He is an extraterrestrial", stated
"I think I kept him a little' on his toes, even if only for a little while"
"Today I realized I was strong and I enjoyed it"

Sinner has always beaten Italian tennis players since he debuted on the ATP circuit

With Cobolli was however the first match ever: "He was a player I missed as an opponent, he deserves all the success he is having"

Then the Roman tennis player also made a frank admission about his level compared to Jannik Sinner’s: “One also has to be a bit realistic in life, one tries and works every day to get where he is but I recognize that Jannik is right now far behind me.” On the aspects in which he thinks he can make progress, Cobolli responded as follows, “I can still improve on everything according to my team, there are things where I consider myself very strong but in others in fact there is still great room for improvement.”

On the Davis Cup he won, finally, Cobolli told a funny anecdote: “I gave the trophy to my grandfather but after a while he gave it back to me, everyone in Rome was stopping him in the street and he couldn’t take it anymore!” Looking ahead to next year, for which he has obviously already started preparing, it is still days of great celebration for Flavio Cobolli, after the victory against Jaume Munar that gave Italy its fourth Davis Cup overall, third consecutive.

A success that came despite the absences of Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti, which Cobolli returned to during a recent interview granted to Corriere della Sera. “I was afraid of the embarrassment. Literally – he explained -. But with the blue jersey on, embarrassments are not allowed. It will never happen. In Bologna, I was forced to turn obstacles into an asset. Twice, I overturned very negative situations. In this yes, I amazed even myself”.

After the triumph in Davis, Cobolli is ready for the ultimate turning point: “I am maturing in stages, without hurry and without tears, as I like it. My idea of where I would like to arrive is clear, in the top 10. I don’t know when, I’m not sure how, but at this point the bar has to be raised. To keep up with Jannik and the top players, I am called upon to fill my weaknesses. My career so far has advanced in small steps”.
